FEATURING KRIZZ KALIKO AND BIG SCOOB
AND PETER JACKSON
Boasting a career most rappers strive for, TECH N9NE has consistently proved himself to be one of the hardest working entertainers in the game. In 2008, he reaped the rewards of his tireless efforts: He SoundScanned over 1 million units, making him the most successful Independent Hip-Hop artist in history.
With hits like “I’m A Playa,” “Caribou Lou” (which boasts 7.2 million MySpace plays), “Riotmaker,” “Like Yeah” and “Everybody Move,” it’s no wonder he counts a total of over 4.5 million YouTube video plays and an average of 40,000 MySpace visitors each day.
Add another T.K.O. to TECH N9NE’s scorecard. Since its fall release “K.O.D.”, has been named #1 Indie Album, #2 Rap Album, #14 in Top 200, #16 iTunes Album Overall in the Billboard Charts. Complementing TECH N9NE’s audio attack is an equally impressive visual assault: After an Oct. 27 All Day Premiere, Tech’s “Leave Me Alone” video is currently #1 on MTV University and was recently added to rotation on MTV JAMS.
With memorable features from Academy Award winners Three 6 Mafia, Strange affiliates Krizz Kaliko, Brotha Lynch Hung and Kutt Calhoun, K.O.D. allows TECH N9NE to paint the most vivid pictures he’s ever attempted. Powered by tracks like “Leave Me Alone” and “Show Me A God,” K.O.D. is a cathartic masterpiece offering his most personal songs yet.
Media outlets are also weighing in on the album and the reviews are outstanding. HipHopDX.com raves, “[K.O.D.] is dark and at times eerie but it’s honest and [TECH N9NE’s] lyrical abilities are still top notch,” and commends the rapper: “TECH N9NE is as technical as any emcee alive is. He can do anything he wants with his flow, voice and lyrics.” The site hails “Show Me a God” as “absolutely brilliant”, and about “Blackened the Sun,” it boasts, “From the beat to the chorus, and the lyrics, TECH shines.”

CREATURE WITH THE ATOM BRAIN TO RELEASE TRANSYLVANIA TOMORROW TOUR WITH ALICE IN CHAINS TO START TOMORROW IN VANCOUVER PERFORMANCE CONFIRMED AT THIS YEAR’S SXSW
February 1st, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry, Uncategorized by admin
Creature With The Atom Brain is thrilled to announce that TRANSYLVANIA will be released tomorrow, February 2nd via The End Records. Marking the band’s North American debut, Creature With The Atom Brain landed an impressive thirteen-date slot opening for Alice In Chains, which also kicks off tomorrow at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver.
Mixed by Chris Goss (Queens Of The Stone Age, Masters Of Reality) and including appearances by Mark Lanegan, TRANSYLVANIA showcases the band’s blend of psychedelia, garage rock, and hypnotizing grooves, while also combining African rhythms, making this album a striking standout from most contemporary independent music. Q Magazine gave the album 4 out of 5 stars and went on to say “long endorsed by Josh Homme, these Belgians’ stoner/psych credentials are impeccable even before Mark Lanegan and Chris Goss signed up for this sublimely lysergic release.”
Creature With The Atom Brain will also make their debut at this year’s SXSW, playing at The End Record’s showcase on Thursday, March 18th at The Ale House. More details to follow.

CD Review: The Great Sabatini – Sad Parade of Yesterdays

CD Review – The Great Sabatini
Sad Parade of Yesterdays
Sludge Hummer
Do not be deceived by the melodic, instrumental opening track Nametag. It may be mesmerizing, it may be beautiful, it may be reminiscent of some seasonal Soundgarden loveliness that brings you back to that nice warm place. But it is only about a minute long, and Rosemary’s Abortion awaits you eagerly in the real world of Sabatini. Large, huge, big, gigantic, riff-driven doom incites all the sincerest sludgy stoners into fits of screaming in a musical hell. Multiple voices scream over one another, all of them vying for top spot in the lung bursting Olympiad of agony. Robots enters with the same energy, just a bit more maniacal, and panned dueling guitars give you a sonic picture of the droid battle occurring in this song.
Stick around awhile and witness the robot war as it gives away lustily to glorious robot sex in Auto-Erography. Fire and Flood is divided by the “and”. It is two halves of one whole, two different energies. The first is a fiery swath of deliciously nonsensical drum fills, and the second is a slowly spreading current of subtly ebbing fullness, vivid for those who can employ their imaginations. Thematically, these gents proclaim to be the harbingers of human uselessness and confusion. As far as I am concerned, they can continue to proclaim that unto the ends of the earth, and unto the ends of the universe for that matter.
I can’t think of another collection of music that characterizes more accurately the disjointed awkwardness I feel as a human being, doomed and dismal in the scope of the cosmos. But if you want to keep out of the realm of the analytical and morose, just shut your eyes and let this record take you wherever. I’m sure the cauldron of each individual mind will produce something unique with the catalyst that is the Sad Parade of Yesterdays.

Marco Polo & Ruste Juxx Set The eXXecution
January 28th, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry, Uncategorized by admin
Album In Stores March 23rd, 2010 on Duck Down Records
Album Is Entirely Produced By Marco Polo and Features Appearances From Sean Price, Black Moon (Buckshot, 5FT & DJ Evil Dee), Rock of Heltah Skeltah, Freddie Foxxx & DJ Revolution
Marco Polo & Ruste Juxx have combined forces to bring fans a serious dose of hardcore Hip Hop. The eXXecution is entirely produced by Marco Polo with Ruste Juxx providing gut-wrenching vocals over heavy hitting drums.
Marco Polo explains that a “simple studio session to play beats turned into Ruste Juxx recording 9 songs. The joints came out so crazy that we said let’s turn this into a full-length album. Working with Duck Down all these years it was only a matter of time before Juxx and I got to a specific project. The best part is the work happened organically. Nothing was forced. Ruste came through, heard beats, wrote, recorded…done deal. March 23rd is The eXXecution!”
The album, which has been finalized features Sean Price, Black Moon (Buckshot, 5FT & DJ Evil Dee), Rock of Heltah Skeltah, DJ Revolution, and Freddie Foxxx.
Ruste Juxx describes the album as “straight eXXecuting. I’m killing off wack MCs and Marco’s murdering the producers. I couldn’t help but to write some killer shit to the beats Marco made. If I wrote something wack to his production, then it’s a wasted beat. I can’t have that! ”
Tracklisting and credits for The eXXecution:
1.) The eXXecution Intro f/DJ Revolution
2.) Death Penalty f/DJ Revolution
3.) Rearview
4.) Take Money f/Rock of Heltah Skeltah & Freddie Foxxx

Banksy Film To Debut at Sundance
January 21st, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry, Uncategorized by admin(SlashFilm) – British street artist Banksy has been creating attention-getting stenciled graffiti for years. Over the past decade, as his artistic profile has risen, Banksy’s identity has remained almost totally secret. And yet, here he is with a film in the Sundance Film Festival. Exit Through the Gift Shop is…well, we’re not yet sure exactly what it is. Billed as a ‘pseudo-documentary’ and described by Banksy as “The story of how one man set out to film the un-filmable. And failed,” the film might show Banksy at work and reveal something about the artist. Then again, it might not.
Rhys Ifans narrates the film, which was directed (according to a statement from the filmmakers) by Terry Guetta, who “set out to record this secretive world in thrilling detail. For more than eight years he traveled with a backpack through Europe and America. After he met a British street artist known only as Banksy, things took a bizarre turn.”

D.O.A. Announce New studio album and D.O.A. Anti-OH-LIMP-IC show
January 18th, 2010 Filed under: Made In Canada, News/Calendar/Industry, Uncategorized by admin
ABOVE: Classic episode of ABORT TV w/ D.O.A’s Joe Shithead
Punk legends D.O.A. will start recording their 13th studio album This Machine Kills Fascists on January 23rd at the new Profile Studios. It will be produced by Joe Shithead Keithley and Sean Hollowaychuk. The title is a phrase that has been borrowed from one of Joe’s big influences, the incomparable Woody Guthrie. The album will focus heavily on social justice, just the way Woodie would have done it. It will be released simultaneously by Sudden Death Records, Social Bomb Records (Germany) and Area Pirata Records (Italy) on the people’s day, May Day.
D.O.A. will headline a big Anti-OH-LIMP-IC show February 20th at the Rickshaw Theater in Vancouver. A lot of people are sick of VANOC and the IOC and their anti-democratic methods. To many, the games are not much more than a corporate sellout. Professor Chris Shaw, who wrote the definitive book ‘Five Ring Circus: Myths and Realities of the Olympic Games’ will speak at the event. Support will be a couple of great new bands: The Jolts and F.O.T. (Fear of Tomorrow). Doors at 8 PM, advance tickets at the usual outlets.
Let’s Wreck The Party, D.O.A.’s classic 1985 album, will be released March 16th on Sudden Death. Produced by the legendary Brian “Too Loud” MacLeod (RIP), this album has never been re-released. So what good timing because it’s the 25th Anniversary of Let’s Wreck The Party. The album is a great combo of D.O.A. politics and humor, featuring outstanding tracks like: General Strike, Race Riot, The Warrior Ain’t No More, Our World and Murder in Hollywood.
Classic D.O.A and Sudden Death videos on YouTube. We have updated our YouTube page www.youtube.com/user/joekeithley with new Hi Res versions of D.O.A. videos like World War 3, World Falls Apart, Where Evil Grows, We Know What You Want, Mexican Holiday, Police Brutality and Human Bomb, to name a few. As well there are Real McKenzies videos including Mainland, Loch Lomond, Scots Wa Hey and My Bonnie.
Last, but not least, don’t forget about the SDR CD deal: Buy One CD for $10 and get any second CD for an additional $5.00. Just visit

SHAME ON US: Canada to send relief funds of only $5 million to Haiti
January 13th, 2010 Filed under: Uncategorized by admin
(Photo – Getty)
(Vancouver Sun) – Canada allocated up to $5 million for urgent disaster relief to Haiti on Wednesday and is working with Norway to establish a field hospital.
International Co-operation Minister Bev Oda made the announcement during a conference call with reporters.
She offered Canada’s “deepest condolences to the people of Haiti” and said “Canada will not let down Haiti in this time of need.”
The funds are available to non-government relief agencies to provide shelter, medical services, food, relief items, water, sanitation and protection. Reuniting families separated by the impact of the earthquake is also a priority. Further aid is possible, she said.
Oda said Canadians in the Red Cross and United Nations would assess and identify exactly what is needed. Assessments were expected later Wednesday.

ABORT Recommends….MARTIN LUTHER KING JR DAY CELEBRATION W/ GIL SCOTT-HERON
January 11th, 2010 Filed under: ABORT Recommends..., News/Calendar/Industry, Uncategorized by admin
(New York, NY)- The tradition continues with SOBs’ annual Martin Luther King Jr Day celebration, with one of the people responsible for the United States’ adoption of the national holiday. Gil Scott-Heron celebrates MLK Day on Sunday, January 11th.
The revered musician and poet, most famous for the 1970’s era-defining poem, “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”, returns to the legendary S.O.B.’s for his first show in 2009. A long time civil rights activist, Gil Scott-Heron is the author of a book on the history of MLK Day and returns to S.O.B.’s for two intimate shows commemorating the holiday.
Gil Scott-Heron’s politically charged material made him a stalwart figure in the 1970’s civil rights movement. His lyrical content covered topics like the superficiality of television and mass consumerism, the hypocrisy of some would-be Black revolutionaries, white middle-class ignorance of the difficulties faced by inner-city residents, and fear of homosexuals. His honesty, matter-of-fact delivery and fearlessness to address important social issues in the face of media criticism made him one of the foremost progenitors of contemporary hip-hop and spoken word. In fact, Heron is often referred to as ‘The Godfather of Rap’.
After more than 30 years of social activism through music, Gil Scott-Heron remains dedicated to the civil rights movement and social equality. After a too-long hiatus the resilient Scott-Heron will take to the stage where seems to be most comfortable. June 10th promises to be an epic performance.
Where: S.O.B.’s, 204 Varick Street, New York, NY 10014
When: Sunday, January 17th @ 8pm & 10pm

New TV Spot for THE WOLFMAN
January 11th, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry, Uncategorized by admin“Inspired by the classic Universal film that launched a legacy of horror, The Wolfman brings the myth of a cursed man back to its iconic origins. Oscar® winner Benicio Del Toro stars as Lawrence Talbot, a haunted nobleman lured back to his family estate after his brother vanishes. Reunited with his estranged father (Oscar® winner Anthony Hopkins), Talbot sets out to find his brother…and discovers a horrifying destiny for himself. Lawrence Talbot’s childhood ended the night his mother died.
After he left the sleepy Victorian hamlet of Blackmoor, he spent decades recovering and trying to forget. But when his brother’s fiancée, Gwen Conliffe (Emily Blunt), tracks him down to help find her missing love, Talbot returns home to join the search. He learns that something with brute strength and insatiable bloodlust has been killing the villagers, and that a suspicious Scotland Yard inspector named Aberline (Hugo Weaving) has come to investigate. As he pieces together the gory puzzle, he hears of an ancient curse that turns the afflicted into werewolves when the moon is full.
Now, if he has any chance at ending the slaughter and protecting the woman he has grown to love, Talbot must destroy the vicious creature in the woods surrounding Blackmoor. But as he hunts for the nightmarish beast, a simple man with a tortured past will uncover a primal side to himself…one he never imagined existed.”

ABORT Magazine Presents: Rhymesayers Recording Artist P.O.S – Live in Concert! February 11th, 2010, The Biltmore, Vancouver, BC
January 5th, 2010 Filed under: ABORT Presents..., News/Calendar/Industry, Uncategorized by admin
It’s been quite a year for Rhymesayers recording artist P.O.S – Never Better marked the third album from this Minneapolis rapper, which appeared on multiple year end lists including Spin’s “Top 10 Best Album You Might Have Missed” and MySpace’s Top 50. After four videos (Drumroll, Optimist, Purexed, Never Better), a cover of Pearl Jam’s “Why Go”, MTV2 Discover and Download artist nod, a solo cup performance at the MTVu Woodies and non-stop touring it doesn’t look like P.O.S. will be slowing down anytime soon. He’ll hit the road in February on a two month “Every Never Is Now” headlining tour. Full list of confirmed dates is below.
If you slept on Never Better back when it was released in February, don’t sweat it. You still have time to get hip to one of the year’s best releases before the year is over. Never Better combines a unique, powerful blend of rock, punk and hip hop that’s appealing to a wide range of musical tastes. Just ask Kanye West and Pete Wentz, they dig.
