COMBICHRIST To Release Fifth Album on September 28th
July 28th, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry by adminABOVE : ABORT TV’S EXCLUSIVE EPISODE W/ COMBICHRIST IN VANCOUVER
Metropolis recording artists COMBICHRIST are gearing up for the release of MAKING MONSTERS on September 28, 2010. Recorded in Totprod Studios in Atlanta, GA and produced by Andy LaPlegua (also the mastermind behind the band), their fifth studio album takes the band beyond the aggressive techno and electro rhythms and propels them into much more primal and raw territory. “It’s beyond my personal demons, and extremely honest,” says LaPlegua.
Kicking off with the ominous and foreboding “Declamation”, Making Monsters is a journey deep within the reaches of the mind of LaPlegua, who spent the last year, deep in introspection, as he toured four full months in Europe with Rammstein in front of hundreds of thousands of people. Diving deep into the darkest corners of his mind, he’s created an album devoid of pretension and conscious thought. Fueled by expressions of lust, anger, pain and hate, Making Monsters is the sound of LaPlegua ripping out his heart and plugging its still-beating deathkicks into his music, rife with hook-heavy choruses, speaker-crushing beats, and dark aggressive vocals. The first single “Never Surrender” is bound to rule the dance floors along with other floor stompers “They” and “Throat Full of Glass”. The baretoothed aggression of “Follow the Trail of Blood” (featuring Brendan Schiepatti of Bleeding Through) will immediately become a crowd favorite while the brooding “Through These Eyes of Pain” takes a much subtler approach and shows us another side of Combichrist, that of the man inside the monster.
MAKING MONSTERS
Track Listing:
1. Declamation
2. Follow The Trail Of Blood
3. Never Surrender
4. Throat Full of Glass
5. Forgotten
6. Fuck Machine
7. Just Like Me

9. Through These Eyes Of Pain
10. Monster: Murder: Kill
11. They
12. Reclamation
Starting off in the dark metal and hardcore soul of Norway, Andy LaPlegua led a few seminal bands in the Norwegian underground (including the influential Icon of Coil) before fusing electronics and dance beats and forming Combichrist in 2003 and releasing their incredibly well-respected debut The Joy of Gunz (2003). The two following albums – Everybody Hates You and What The F*&$ Is Wrong With You People? – witnessed the band’s evolution and were described as “a journey through hell and high water, through the eyes of a serial killer, sex, violence and plenty of Jack Daniels on ice.”
Their acclaimed last album Today We Are All Demons witnessed Combichrist expanding their audience and infiltrating the mainstream. Their first single from that album “Sent to Destroy” and its EP debuted on Billboard’s Top Singles Chart at #8 and the Dance Chart at #5 and remained there for over ten weeks. “Never Surrender,” the new single from Making Monsters, will undoubtedly have a similar breakthrough story.
Making Monsters will be released via Metropolis Records physically on September 28, 2010 (digital release is slated for August 31, 2010). A national tour will be announced shortly.

WTF?: Record Breaking Beer Shipped in Woodland Creatures. Bambi is Pissed!
July 26th, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry, WTF? by adminThe strongest and most expensive beer ever created sold out within hours Friday, a Scottish brewery said, as they courted controversy by packaging the bottles inside the bodies of stuffed animals.
BrewDog, the self-described maverick brewery, presented the beer — which contains a record 55 percent alcohol — inside the bodies of dead squirrels and stoats.
Animal rights activists rushed to condemn the stunt.
“It’s pointless and it’s very negative to use dead animals when we should be celebrating live animals,” Advocates for Animals policy director Libby Anderson told BBC Scotland.
“This seems to be a perverse idea.”
BrewDog said the limited edition Belgian ale — made with juniper berries and dubbed “The End of History” — was also the costliest beer ever sold.
The squirrel bottles cost 700 pounds (1,000 dollars, 840 euros) each and the seven stoat bottles went for 500 pounds a pop.
All sold out within four hours of going on sale, BrewDog managing director James Watt told AFP.
Watt said the controversial drink was the last in a line of experimental brews, explaining: “For the final installment in the strong beer series, we wanted to create something epic, something monumental.”
He said there were no plans to come up with a beer to beat this record, insisting: “We’re quite happy at 55 percent.”
As for the taste, Watt described “The End of History” as a “complex” beer with a multitude of flavours including honey, mint and cinnamon.
He recommended sipping the drink “much like you would a malt whiskey”, served up in a spirit glass rather than a pint glass.

WTF? – Playboy Magazine Tests 3-D Centrefold. Tissue Prices Skyrocket!
June 9th, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry, WTF? by admin
(No, you’re not going blind, it’s in 3-D! That doesn’t explain your hairy palms though – Ed)
(Source – CBC News)
Playboy readers who can only imagine what it would look like if a centrefold jumped right off the page are getting new specs to help them see into Hef’s world.
The magazine’s June edition comes equipped with 3-D glasses. Now the toy that has kids dodging dragons, meatballs and tall blue aliens at the movies will help adults focus on what is, at first glance, a very blurry Playmate of the Year.
“What would people most like to see in 3-D?” asked Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. “Probably a naked lady.”
Hefner makes no secret of hoping to capitalize on the popularity of 3-D movies such as Avatar and How to Train Your Dragon, even as he makes no secret of not quite getting what all the fuss is about.
“I’m not a huge enthusiast of 3-D,” he said in a telephone interview. “I leave real life to go to the movies and 2-D is fine with me.”
If the thought of grown men sitting back in their recliners with a pair of 3-D glasses doesn’t quite say Playboy, it should be noted that a few months ago, the magazine put Marge Simpson — yes, the blue-haired animated mother of Bart — on the cover and in a two-page centrefold.
“In today’s print environment, you have to create newsstand events,” said Jimmy Jellinek, the editorial director of the Chicago-based magazine. “Marge Simpson was one of those.”
Playboy certainly must do something to get more people, especially younger people, to buy a magazine that has seen circulation plummet from 3.5 million in 2006 to 1.5 million today.
Jellinek said he hopes the issue featuring centrefold Hope Dworaczyk in 3-D also reminds people that for all the infatuation with the internet, there is nothing quite like having a magazine in your hands.
“People want things that last and have meaning,” he said.
The thought hadn’t occurred to Hefner. But, now that you mention it: “This particular picture is one example of how books and magazines are different [than computer images],” he said. “You can hold it in your hands, save them, and as Dad used to, put them under the mattress.”

Heavy Metal’s “The Big Four: Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax” on Cineplex Entertainment’s Screens June 22nd
June 2nd, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry by admin
“The Big Four: Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax” are bringing their historic European tour to the global stage with a concert shown via satellite in High-Definition (HD) in Cineplex Entertainment theatres across the country. These four legendary acts broke out of the underground thrash movement in the 1980’s to dominate the metal world, selling millions of records and packing arenas across the globe. Despite huge demand, these musical giants have never shared the same stage until now. The legendary concert from the tour’s stop at the Sonisphere Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria will air on Tuesday, June 22nd at more than 65 Cineplex theatres in Canada.
Advance tickets are available beginning Friday, May 28th online at www.cineplex.com/events as well as at participating theatre box offices. General admission is $18.00.
In December 2009, the bands announced that they would be joining forces to take part in the traveling Sonisphere Festival for only seven shows across Europe. Now, this one-time only event from the Sofia show makes it possible for fans far and wide to participate in what otherwise is a very limited run of dates. The HD concert presentation will memorialize the event and the impact will be amplified globally with the cinema screenings, making the dreams of fans around the world over become a reality.
Lars Ulrich of Metallica says of this historic announcement, “Who would have thought that more than 25 years after its inception, thrash metal’s Big Four would not only still be around, be more popular than ever, playing shows together at stadiums all over Europe, and on top of that, coming to a movie theatre near you in High Definition (for better or worse??!!). Bring it on!”
Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian says “Damn, as if this Big Four tour wasn’t exciting enough now we get to be on the big screen worldwide! Metal at the movies, two big horns up! It is unbelievably gratifying that this means so much to the metal community around the globe. Get your tix, grab some popcorn and get ready to bang your head!”
Declares Slayer’s Kerry King, “I can’t believe someone didn’t make this happen 15 years ago! The fans finally get what they want. I think it’s awesome!”
Says Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine, “The magnitude of this event hasn’t really sunk in yet, and I am thrilled to know that people around the planet will be able to walk into a movie theatre and experience the greatest line up of Heavy Metal in the history of the world!”
“Cineplex Entertainment is pleased to bring this historic event to our guests across the country,” said Pat Marshall, Vice President, Communications and Investor Relations, Cineplex Entertainment. “For one night only, fans can gather together at Cineplex theatres to experience a rock concert louder and harder than ever before, making you feel like you are head-banging with the crowd in Sofia, Bulgaria.”
Cineplex Entertainment, in association with BY Experience, will present “The Big Four: Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax” on Tuesday, June 22nd at 7 pm EST/PST/CST and 8 pm MST

Zack de la Rocha Preps Arizona Boycott
May 26th, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry by admin
(Billboard) – Rage Against the Machine lead singer Zack de la Rocha has enlisted dozens of musicians and activists to join The Sound Strike, an open call by artists to boycott the state of Arizona over its recently passed immigration law. The law passed by the Arizona state legislature, SB1070, requires local authorities to determine a person’s immigration status if he or she is suspected of being undocumented.
Groups like Cypress Hill, Juanes, Conor Oberst, Los Tigres del Norte, Rage Against the Machine, Cafe Tacvba, Kanye West, Calle 13 as well as Oscar winning filmmaker and activist Michael Moore have signed on to the campaign, which was announced on thesoundstrike.net today.

Public Enemy transcends the confines of rap and pop music, remaining one of the African-American community’s most important messengers, digital music’s greatest champions, and a rare rap group who need not rely on misogynistic and pro-violent lyrics. The group burst onto both the rap and pop music world in 1987 with their first single, “Public Enemy #1,” a startling combination of Chuck D’s commanding orations, Hank Shocklee’s layered cacophony of musical noise, and Flavor Flav’s show-stopping antics to keep the message entertaining. The song is not only known for introducing a whole new sound to the rap genre, but for giving the group their name.

SPV/STEAMHAMMER ANNOUNCES SIGNING OF ZODIAC MINDWARP & THE LOVE REACTION
May 18th, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry by admin
They were the prime mover, they preached back seat education, together with Alice Cooper they fed Frankenstein….now they are back….meaner, leaner and heavier than ever. ZODIAC MINDWARP & THE LOVE REACTION will enter a new decade of heavy dirty street rock n`roll and they declare “We are Volsung”. Inspired by northern mythology ZODIAC MINDWARP & THE LOVE REACTION’S new album features 10 brand-new unadulterated songs including a track with the German title “Stark von oben”.
SPV / Steamhammer is very proud to have the band on board for a journey to Valhalla and back. The album will be released in Germany on September 24th, in Europe on September 27th and in the USA on September 28th followed by a European tour in October and a US Tour in November.
ZODIAC MINDWARP & THE LOVE REACTION’S story starts in the year 1985: In a musical world of hairspray and spandex, two long haired leather clad rockers were introduced to each other by their “exotic dancer” girlfriends. One, a graphic artist and poet, the other, a budding philosopher. They immediately dropped everything, joined forces and created the dirtiest, wildest band of all time. One year later, they signed to Polygram, released, the ground breaking High Priest of Love EP, and subsequently the Tattooed Beat Messiah album, containing the well received single Prime Mover.
Overnight, they accidentally changed the look of all the rock bands of the time from the obligatory spandex, eye liner and tinsel, to rough biker jackets, engineer boots and goatees. Mötley Crüe declared them to be their favorite band and immediately restyled themselves for the Girls, Girls, Girls record.
ZMATLR grew in notoriety, touring the World and America, co-headlining arenas and theaters with Guns `N` Roses and found themselves at home playing festivals and baseball stadiums with Iron Maiden. After attending a ZMATLR concert at the Hammersmith Odeon and giving it his seal of approval, Alice Cooper took to the studio and recorded the Zodiac Mindwarp tune “Feed My Frankenstein”, which was later performed in the film Wayne’s World… The critical acclaim of ZMATLR did however cause some rare misfortune, when they lost their young naive bass player to the lures of The Cult. The band soldiered on regardless. Sometime later, in Paris, Slam Thunderhide, their drummer decided to put down his sticks to become a GoGo dancer in Vancouver.
Present day: With “The Cat” shaking the Earth on drums and “Jack Shitt” rumbling the low frequencies, they ride again, honing their skills playing for the Viking descendants in Scandinavia. From these tough, manly ordeals, a new set of recordings have been forged. “We Are Volsung” is the result, a celebration in the Norse tradition. 10 Songs of pure unadulterated rock.
Tracklisting:
1. We Ride
2. Stark Von Oben
3. Kill Me a Mockinbird
4. Tree Rider
5. We Are Volsung
6. Don’t Touch My Guitar
7. Die Pretty
8. Lucille
9. White Trash
10. Key to Your Heart
Line-Up:
Zodiac Mindwarp – Vocals
Cobalt Stargazer – Guitars
Jack Shitt – Bass
Bruno “The Cat” Agua – Drums

R.I.P. – Ronnie James Dio, Dead at 67

(CBC) – Ronnie James Dio, whose soaring vocals, poetic lyrics and mythic tales of a never-ending struggle between good and evil broke new ground in heavy metal, died Sunday, according to a statement from his wife and manager. He was 67.
Dio revealed last summer that he was suffering from stomach cancer shortly after wrapping up a tour in Atlantic City, N.J., with the latest incarnation of Black Sabbath, under the name Heaven And Hell.
“Today my heart is broken,” Wendy Dio wrote on the singer’s website, adding he died at 7:45 a.m. Sunday. “Many, many friends and family were able to say their private goodbyes before he peacefully passed away.

Legal LeakZ: Wu-Tang / El Michels Affair Remix Project Enter The 38th Chamber Releases Final Tracks Of Series
May 14th, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry by admin
After leaking the initial series of remakes from Enter The 37th Chamber in late 2009, El Michels Affair is back with the final three installments to the remix series. Released last year on Fat Beats, Enter The 37th Chamber is El Michels Affair’s retro-soul recreation of many classic Wu-Tang Clan songs with an infusion of their signature style. In a project presented by URB.com, Fat Beats, and Audible Treats, Enter The 38th Chamber was released featuring a slew of artists remaking their own versions of these Wu-Tang Clan songs using El Michels Affair’s instrumental covers.
The first leak in this series, “C.R.E.A.M.” features A-Plus of Souls of Mischief and Knobody of the Hieroglyphics crew. While recreating a Wu-Tang anthem may be a difficult feat, the two met the lofty challenge. Over top El Michels’ jazz-soul instrumentation, the duo maintains Wu-Tang Clan’s original mantra with, “Cash rules everything around me / C.R.E.A.M. get the money / Dollar dollar bill, ya’ll.” Their new tone is complimented with upbeat guitar and bass and a more prominent embellishment of the track’s original piano melody, all while maintaining the original sounds and elements that made the track a classic.
Next on deck is Nuk Farm, N.R.O., and The Dugout’s cover of “Protect Ya Neck,” re-titled “Trifect Ya Neck.” Taking the original dialogue from Wu-Tang’s version, the cover’s distorted bass, aggressive lyrical attacks, and strong instrumentals bring Wu-Tang’s classic sound into the 21st century. Paying homage to the clan, the trifecta performed “Trifect Ya Neck” live at Southpaw in conjunction with the release of Enter The 37th Chamber.
The third and final leak is “Shimmy Shimmy Ya,” by the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard of Wu-Tang Clan. Remade by Von Pea of Tanya Morgan and Spec Boogie of the Lessondary crew, the track overflows with horns and adds a child-like voice to rap the chorus. While recreating the classics was never an easy task, the variety of artists that created Enter The 38th Chamber didn’t try to overshadow the legends. Instead, they revamped the tracks to demonstrate their own unique styles, bringing new life to the Shaolin classics.

R.I.P. – Frank Frazetta (1928-2010)
May 11th, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry, R.I.P. by admin
(Source – Master Zico)
Frank Frazetta (February 9, 1928 – May 10, 2010) was an American fantasy and science fiction artist, noted for work in comic books, paperback book covers, paintings, posters, record-album covers, and other media. He was the subject of a 2003 documentary.
We are sad to confirm via Frazetta’s agent Robert Pistella that the artist passed away this afternoon in a hospital near his home. The cause of death was a stroke. Funeral arrangements will be announced shortly.
Frank Frazetta was born February 9, 1928. His early artistic career consisted of years of exquisitely drawn comics work, including contributions to the EC line of comics, assisting Al Capp on L’il Abner and later drawing several years of the strip, and working with Harvey Kurtzman on Little Annie Fanny.

In the ’60s, Frazetta turned to cover paintings for the thriving pulp paperback industry and created one of the most recognizable illustration styles of all time. His covers for Conan, Tarzan and other rough-hewn heroes created a visceral, violent, erotic yet somehow still nuanced visual style that has been endlessly imitated but never surpassed — Frazetta’s imagery of brawny, relentless swordsmen, seductive, fleshy sirens and hellfire breathing monsters had a gut level impact because it came from the gut — his many followers were just tracing without the passion of the originals.
In recent years, as reported here and elsewhere, the Frazetta estate had been much in dispute among his four children, following the death of his wife, Ellie. After some family squabbles that could only be called stressful and embarrassing, peace was made, however, and the sale of some of Frazetta’s most iconic paintings had begun, notably with the $1,000,000 sale of one of his paintings to a buyer believed to be Metallica’s Kirk Hammett. Another Frazetta painting was recently put up for auction, although it was not owned by the family.

WTF? – Small Penis? Beware Airport Body Scanners!
May 10th, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry, WTF? by admin
Hands Up Pencil Dick!
(Source – The Smoking Gun)
A Transportation Security Administration screener is facing an assault rap after he allegedly beat a co-worker who joked about the size of the man’s genitalia after he walked through a security scanner. The May 4 confrontation involved Rolando Negrin, 44, and other TSA employees who had previously taken part in a training session at Miami International Airport, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department report. Negrin and his co-workers had been training with new “whole body image” machines–the controversial kind that provide very revealing images of a traveler–when Negrin walked through the scanner. “The X-ray revealed that [Negrin] has a small penis and co-workers made fun of him on a daily basis,” reported cops. Following his arrest, Negrin told police that he “could not take the jokes anymore and lost his mind.” After work Tuesday evening, Negrin confronted fellow TSA screener Hugo Osorno in an airport parking lot. Negrin wanted to “resolve a problem,” and get Osorno, 34, to “finally respect him.” Instead, Negrin allegedly pulled out a police baton and began striking Osorno, while demanding an apology. A witness told cops that Negrin told Osorno, in Spanish, “Get on your knees or I will kill you and you better apologize.” When Negrin, wearing his TSA uniform, arrived for work yesterday, he was arrested on an aggravated battery count and booked into the Miami-Dade lockup. Osorno, police reported, suffered “bruises and abrasions on his back and arms” during the attack.
(Fortunately, Osorno’s own tiny penis was to small to suffer any damage – Ed)

Vancouver Eastside closes 24-hour drop-in centre for being redundant. Emergency protest planned for May 10th!
May 8th, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry by admin
(Source – Vancouver Sun)
A group of Downtown Eastside advocates is condemning the closure of a 24-hour drop-in centre in the heart of the troubled neighbourhood, claiming it will leave more than 100 vulnerable residents without access to basic health care, washrooms and other services every day.
Tami Starlight, spokeswoman for the recently established Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood Council, said the location of the Health Contact Centre, on the first floor of the Roosevelt Hotel at Hastings and Main, made it an ideal place of refuge for many of the area’s residents.
“It’s about as front line as you can get,” Starlight said. “It’s an ideal location for people who use [drugs], because they don’t have to worry about going out to the street and being spotted or harassed by the police. It’s a respite from the streets.”
Vancouver Coastal Health spent about $500,000 each year operating the centre, which was described on its website as the “first point of contact between health/social services and individuals in the Downtown Eastside.”
The centre offered health information and professional support, addiction assessment and referral to detox and recovery houses and drug and alcohol education, among other services.
COME PROTEST THIS UNNECESSARY CLOSURE!
SAVE THE HEALTH CONTACT CENTRE, THE CONTACT CENTRE SAVES LIVES!
