From the hell they came… 30 years ago in a small town in New Jersey called Lodi. It was there, at the dawn of the punk movement in April 1977, the Misfits were born. Taking for their name the title of Marilyn Monroe’s final movie, they set out to make an impression. They wound up making history and creating a legacy which has withstood the test of time. Today, boasting a massive catalog of music old and new, a new lineup and an influence felt around the world, the Misfits are generating more interest than ever before.

DEL THE FUNKY HOMOSAPIEN
BUKUE ONE
ZAC HENDRIX & more
Hailing from Oakland, California, Del and his crew, the Hieroglyphics came out as a markedly non-gansta response to a burgeoning West Coast scene. After being put on at the tender age of 17 by his cousin Ice Cube, Del released two records on Elektra, I Wish My Brother George Was Here (1991) and No Need For Alarm (1993). Despite record sales in the hundreds of thousands, he recorded a third album, Future Development, which was never commercially released.
Del parted with Elektra and started work on the Hieroglyphics family album, 3rd Eye Vision (Hiero Imperium, 1998). Hiero went on the road and toured incessantly in support of the album for much of 1998. Del also spent a good portion of his time drawing, practicing Japanese, and playing mass amounts of video games.
Finally ready to unleash a new record on the world, Del comes with BOTH SIDES OF THE BRAIN. Seventeen tracks of pure Del. He says of his work on this album I’ve had complete control.” At times, Del has felt restrained by the formulas in hip hop and the expectations fans place upon emcees who have had hits. “I wish that I had the same freedom that someone like Bjork has when she puts out an album…” Apart from collaborations with Prince Paul, El-P (Company Flow), and help from a few of his Hiero co-horts (A-plus, Casual, Domino) Del handled the majority of production on this album.
By staying true to himself, Del has earned legions of adoring fans. He may have said it best in his classic, “Mistadobalina” when he declared, “it’s all in the mind and the heart.” Indeed.

ABORT Magazine is proud to sponsor the filthiest, dirtiest motherfucker, to ever bless the microphone.
So for all of you who aren’t going to SOULFLY the same night…come to BLOWFLY!
…and get as nasty as you wanna be!

ABOUT BLOWFLY:
Blowfly is the X-rated alter ego of Clarence Reid, a songwriter/producer who had quite a bit of success under his own name in the ’70s, writing and producing hits for Gwen MacRae, KC & the Sunshine Band, Betty Wright, and others while on the staff at the preeminent Florida disco label of the era, TK Records. It’s as Blowfly that Reid is best remembered in certain circles, though.
The Redd Foxx of the Southern soul circuit, Blowfly specializes in dirty parodies of current soul and pop hits; his over two dozen albums, almost all of them recorded live in the studio with the ambience of a liquor-fueled all-night party, are an entertaining mixture of filth and wit that’s neither too disgusting to be funny nor too refined to be dirty.
Reid released Blowfly records under a variety of label names through the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, collaborating with like-minded folks like 2 Live Crew and even Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Blowfly is enough of a cultural icon that he even recorded his own holiday single in the mid-’70s. Of course, the songs were called “Jingle Fuckin’ Bells” and “Queer for the New Year,” but this is Blowfly we’re talking about here, not Bing Crosby.
Blowfly also starred in the low-budget documentary The Twisted World of Blowfly in 1991, and several of his albums were reissued on CD through the ’90s, capped by The Best of Blowfly: Analthology in 1996.
