CD Review – Snoop Dogg
Malice N Wonderland
Priority/EMI

With close to twenty years in the rap game and the release of his latest album Malice N Wonderland, Snoop Dogg doesn’t have to prove he’s king in this game. He just is. With his tenth solo album and his new digs at the revamped Priority Records, he stands strong as the Doggfather and manages to combine his familiar O.G style with contribution from some of his doggies to create a smoke out journey through Wonderland that is short and sweet.

Just under an hour will give you enough time to make it through Wonderland with some memorable stops along the way. The album opens with a banger “Ì Wanna Rock” while “1800″ follows and has Snoop spitting a sick chilled-out flow that quickly overshadows a typical contribution from Lil` Jon. The road gets rocky on “Pronto” when Snoop meets up with Soulja Boy who pours out an over auto-tuned hook that is obnoxiously unforgettable. “Gangsta Luv” has a similar New School vibe featuring over-rated rapper/producer The Dream, but brings back the goods before the adventure is complete by teaming up with Pharrell and Brandy on the smooth track “Special” which is reminiscent of another collabo he did with Pharrell on the track “Beautiful”.

“Jay got Beyonce, I got Shaynte” Snoop throws one down for his lady with verses so soft and sweet on “Different Languages” but “Pimpin’ Ain’t EZ” featuring R. Kelly proves that just because he loves his lady doesn’t mean he’s lost his swagger.

In an industry full of rappers who have out lived their glory days Snoop continues to set his standards high in the game. Although Malice showcases a slightly more mature side of Snoop, well produced tracks combined with his signature laid back style proves that he is a still a force not to be fucked with.
