ROUND ONE: Grand Analog – The Supermarket
I finally managed to catch Peg City’s finest, Grand Analog, live at the Supermarket – wicked! Live bass, keys, and DJing (courtesy of Odario’s brother Ofield K. Williams) and a hype crowd made for a sweaty set of soulful, dub reggae rooted Hip Hop. Very original, energetic, and – Goddammit – moving…you know, like when music makes you feel things…and did I say it was Hip Hop.
Honestly, these guys are ones to watch. It’s obvious that they are well seasoned performers, and the ladies loved it, which is always a good thing. Music to move the crowd and heal the urban soul, and an organic sound that stands apart from the rest.

ROUND TWO: M.O.P. -The Opera House
Outside there was a blizzard to face, but there was no way that was going to stop me from seeing M.O.P. live at the Opera House. This was the type of show that Vancouver only wishes could happen, all black Jays hats, black bombers, black Timberlands, black fists and blunt smoke rising to the ceiling, and a soundtrack of Eastcoast Hardcore, straight with no West coast chaser.
I was on the floor when Lil’ Fame, Billy Danze and the Mash Out Posse took the stage, but by the time they ripped into “Ante Up” like beasts at a feast, you can believe that this skinny white boy was out of the pit. Heavier than any fucking grindcore show you’ve seen, for real.
Special Thanks to Brent and staff from Just Entertainment for making it happen.
