William Wilson of Legion Within is performing with the current KMFDM line-up of Sascha, Lucia Cifarelli (vocals, keyboards), Jules Hodgson (guitars), Andy Selway (drums) and Steve White (guitars).

KMFDM also recently released a collection of their best known tracks in a single disc version titled Würst and a double disc edition called Greatest Shit.  Both releases feature songs from their time spent on WaxTrax! and Metropolis/KMFDM Records.

RoadTrip: VNV NATION Announces US Tour

March 9th, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry, Road Trip by Editor in Chief

In support to their widely-hailed seventh studio album Of Faith, Power and Glory on Anachron America, electronic rock pioneers VNV NATION will be launching a national tour in San Francisco on March 16th and circling the states (tour dates below). The special guests on select shows include SITD and Aerodrone. Kicking off what will be a very busy year, the Irish/English duo will also be releasing Crossing the Divide, a collection of remixes from their current album by Jade Puget from AFI, Rotersand, Reaper, Leæther Strip, Architect and more and will be released in May 2010 (more info soon).

A lush and orchestral return to form, Of Faith… has received plaudits and praise from the likes of All Music Guide (“In a world where bands like the Hold Steady and the Gaslight Anthem get praise for similar sentiments delivered via rock & roll, there seems to be no reason why VNV Nation shouldn’t get some credit of their own”) to ReGen Magazine (“VNV takes futurepop on its next step in evolution…”).

Evolving their trademark sound by augmenting it with even crisper melodies and stronger hooks, Of Faith is an alt-pop pantheon of sharp and soothing keyboards, full and hearty rhythms, and synthpop dancebeats that both embrace their seminal and illustrious past while looking straight ahead into the future. From the lushly atmospheric and majestic opening track “Pro Victoria” to the powerfully propulsive “Tomorrow Never Comes” to the gentle piano ballad “From My Hands,” this is a strikingly warm album in a genre that tends to be cold, hard and isolating.

With their unique and formidable ability to combine very melodic, danceable electronics with haunting and powerful lyrics, VNV Nation have built a massive fanbase, playing to hundreds of thousands of fans at both their own sold-out shows and major rock festivals worldwide. Their massive hits “Standing” and “Dark Angel” are club staples that still pack dancefloors. Of Faith, Power And Glory was released on June 23, 2009 and charted on Billboard’s Electronic Charts at #5.

RoadTrip: Iron Maiden Announce Canadian Tour Dates

March 4th, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry, Road Trip by Editor in Chief

Metal legends IRON MAIDEN have revealed the title of their new album, THE FINAL FRONTIER and details of their highly anticipated 2010 North American tour, announced Live Nation today.  With 22 dates confirmed, the Live Nation promoted tour will open in Dallas, Texas, on June 9 and finish in Washington D.C. on July 20, making it their most extensive North American tour in many years. (Full confirmed dates below.)

The new album is expected to be released in late summer and following the North American tour, the The Final Frontier World Tour will continue to Europe for a few select major festival and stadium shows.

From their self-titled debut via their worldwide breakthrough album “The Number of the Beast” to the most recent masterpiece, “A Matter of Life and Death,” for over the last 30 years at the forefront of Metal, Iron Maiden have influenced everyone from massive acts such as Metallica, Anthrax and Slayer to aspiring metal stars Mastodon, Bullet for My Valentine and Trivium, while selling over 80 million albums and packing out arenas and stadiums Worldwide. Renowned for their spectacular stage sets and uncompromising musicianship, during their 08-09 “Somewhere Back in Time World Tour” alone they headlined in an astonishing 38 countries to two million fans. As vital and exciting as ever, Maiden never fail to put on the best possible show for their fans and  give even the biggest stadium the atmosphere of a club show with their intense communication with an audience.

Says vocalist Bruce Dickinson, “We really wanted to get out and play some shows before the release of the new album later this year, so we thought what better way to kick off the tour than by going back to Canada and the USA where fans gave us such a fantastic reception during our last tour in 2008! We were astounded to see so many thousands of fans packing out the venues, so this time round we will be playing a few more cities we haven’t visited for some time, like Dallas, Saskatoon, Detroit, Denver and Pittsburgh, though logistically we couldn’t get to a few places we really like to play, which is a shame. It’s also great news that our friends DREAM THEATER are able to join us as special guests.”

“We’re still working on the set list for these summer shows, but this time it will cover the whole history of the band, and I can hint that we will be playing a taster from the new album. We already have the designs for the new Final Frontier stage show which we are building to bring out with us, so this summer tour will be a bit of a preview for the fans. It’s certainly looking very spectacular at this stage and with a brand new Eddie and an amazing light show!”

“We are also trying to ensure that our fans get the tickets they want close to the stage without paying over the odds to ticket scalpers. This is something our manager Rod is working hard on so we hope to see many more familiar faces down the front having a great time. We will see you all soon”

Continues manager Rod Smallwood: “Like all bands, Maiden get fed up with the way fans sometimes pay more than the ticket price to get good positions at our shows. So we are trying, with the assistance of Live Nation and wherever possible subject to venue facilities, to arrange paperless ticketing at least for the front sections to try to eliminate as much of the ticket scalping as we can. Basically, with paperless ticketing, only those who actually pay for the ticket will get into the show so they are useless to scalpers. Furthermore, we are once again arranging ticket pre-sales for our fan club members so they can be quick off the mark for great tickets and will also continue to run the first to the barrier in appropriate venues for fan club members so they can enter a contest to be at the barrier prior to the show. We hope that these measures will help our fans as much as possible.

For our fan club members the tour will also see the return of IMTV on our website www.ironmaiden.com, which has regular footage for the live shows, touring, band interviews, insights into our crew and what they do and much much more, along with the diaries, exclusive photographs and anything else that helps our fans get a real insight into the dynamics of a big tour”

Canadian tour dates:

6/24 Vancouver, BC – GM Place

6/26 Edmonton, AB – Rexall Place

6/29 Saskatoon, SK – Credit Union Centre

6/30 Winnipeg, MB – MTS Centre (no Dream Theater)

RoadTrip:THE VOLCOM TOUR 2010 WITH MASTODON, BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, BARONESS AND VALIENT THORR

March 1st, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry, Road Trip by Editor in Chief

Globally celebrated, critically revered, hard rock masterminds, MASTODON, continue to command media attention finishing out 2009 even stronger that it started with their album, Crack The Skye, placing on numerous “Year End / Best of 2009″ critics lists and readers polls including an impressive #8 entry on the prestigious Village Voice Annual Pazz & Jop Critics Poll’s “Top 25 Albums of 2009″ list. For the past eleven months MASTODON have toured the world on their own as well as a co-headline tour with Dethklok and dates overseas supporting Metallica which continues to expand their notoriety as a peerless live force of nature. Now on the Volcom Tour this spring will bring the band to the fans in American cities that have yet to experience the “Crack The Skye” live event.
Celebrated progressive rock / cutting-edge metal band BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME (BTBAM) merges unparalleled musical bravery, prodigious musicianship, flawless execution and an angular landscape of forward thinking ideas to reinvent the rock ‘n roll idiom while pleasing their harshest critics: themselves. Joining metal’s dexterity and progressive rock’s forward-looking action, BTBAM create spine-tingling sound that contains visceral power, labyrinthine arrangement, mind-boggling melody and majestic beauty. Since its inception, the band has proven itself as a progressive rock pacesetter whose modernist clang pegs it as a paradigm to be followed and a yardstick by which other bands are measured. The band’s critically acclaimed new album “The Great Misdirect” is in stores now.
BARONESS are touring in support of their stunning sophomore album, Blue Record. Blue Record is an instantly-classic album that has landed the band on numerous year- and decade- best of lists. Deep and dark; Blue Record overflows with gossamer melodies and striking, earnest riffs that have become the band’s signature. BARONESS has already headlined through the US and Europe on Blue Record, and will be traveling to Australia and Japan for the first time as a band this spring before they hit the road on the Volcom Tour. The band has also been invited to play at both the Coachella and Bonnaroo festivals this year.
Continuing their single-minded mission to spread their message of peace with a catalyst of hard & fast Rock n’ Roll, the mighty band from the planet Venus, VALIENT THORR, are currently writing and recording their 5th full-length album, taking some time off from their staggeringly productive tour schedule that finds them averaging close to 250 dates a year. Look for a brand new Valient Thorr song to be released to coincide with the start of the 2010 Volcom Tour.

NINJASPY ANNOUNCE WESTERN CANADIAN TOUR (Sponsored by ABORT), BAND TO RECORD 2ND ALBUM WITH PRODUCER GGGARTH

February 11th, 2010 Filed under: Made In Canada, News/Calendar/Industry, Road Trip by Editor in Chief

Band prepares to record follow-up to Pi Nature, announce one-off with Powerman 5000 and Manitoba Metal Fest appearance

(VANCOUVER, BC) – It was a whirlwind ride through 2009 for Vancouver’s NINJASPY. After signing to Japanese label Zestone Records, the band enjoyed a Canada-wide tour (Victoria to St. John’s), a personal invitation from Kevin Lyman to perform at Warped Tour in Vancouver, an appearance at Taste of Chaos in Calgary, numerous spins on MTV Canada, and more recently on Absolute Underground TV. NINJASPY’s MySpace plays have also just approached the 250,000 mark and they couldn’t be happier. The band has finally had a well-deserved rest and are ready to head back into The Farm/Nimbus Studios to record the follow-up to their highly successful debut Pi Nature which is now available in record stores nationwide via Scratch Distribution.

The new album will once again be produced by Garth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gallows) and Ben Kaplan (Atreyu, Hedley, Haste The Day).

The band has also caught the eye of local promoters The Invisible Orange who have invited the band to open for POWERMAN 5000 on June 6th, 2010 at The Rickshaw Theatre, which is also the band’s favorite new venue since they performed there on New Years Eve to a sold out crowd. NINJASPY will also be filming the video for the track “Circle Pity” from the album Pi Nature to be completed after this upcoming tour. Add to this an anticipated appearance at the 2010 MANITOBA METAL FEST in March alongside NEURAXIS, BRUTAL TRUTH and more.

RoadTrip: MULTIPLATINUM ROCK BANDS KORN AND ROB ZOMBIE TO TOP BILL ON THIRD ANNUAL ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL

January 25th, 2010 Filed under: News/Calendar/Industry, Road Trip by Editor in Chief

TOUR SPOTLIGHTS LAMB OF GOD, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, ATREYU, HATEBREED, MANY MORE

The ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL featuring KORN  and ROB ZOMBIE will kick off Saturday, July 10 in San Bernardino, CA and will roll through 25 cities in the U.S. and Canada between early July and late August. The pre-sale date for tickets is April 2 and the on-sale date is April 16—check www.mayhemfest.com for more info and www.livenation.com for ticket on sales.

The ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL has become the summer’s hottest ticket by giving fans the opportunity to experience a thrilling mix of hard music’s most influential artists and exciting young voices. This summer’s lineup turns up the heat with a main stage lineup that sees KORN and ROB ZOMBIE joined by LAMB OF GOD and FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH. The JAGERMEISTER stage will feature HATEBREED, CHIMAIRA, SHADOWS FALL, WINDS OF PLAGUE and the JAGERMEISTER Battle of The Bands Winner. The Hot Topic stage will spotlight ATREYU, NORMA JEAN, IN THIS MOMENT and 3 INCHES OF BLOOD.

The World’s Greatest Freestyle Motocross team, METAL MULISHA, will return to rev up audiences with their unique style of death-defying motorcycle stunts. Also featured on this year’s tour will be the bombastic BEACHER’S MADHOUSE, a sexy costume party combined with outrageous variety acts, beautiful dancers, scantily-clad Beacher’s Babies, DJ’s and so much more. Comedian Jay Oakerson will also be on hand to deliver an onslaught of unbridled awesomeness and raunchy rock n roll comedy.

ROB ZOMBIE is gearing up for the February 2nd release of his Roadrunner / Loud & Proud debut Hellbilly Deluxe 2. Over the course of the past 18 years, Zombie has sold more than 15 million records as a solo artist and with his former band, White Zombie. Says Zombie, “It’s been over a decade since my last tour with Korn, so this pairing is long overdue. Mayhem will be one amazingly destructive way to spend the summer. ”

The ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL will be the first major city tour for KORN in support of their 9th studio album, tentatively titled Korn III – Remember Who You Are. The new album marks the return of producer Ross Robinson, who worked with Korn on their first two releases, Korn and Life is Peachy. Lead vocalist Jonathan Davis has said that the new material matches the pure raw emotion of Korn’s early releases while the current touring band has never been tighter. “It’s the perfect mix, says Davis, “and Mayhem is the perfect place to set it off. We can’t wait for the fans to hear it!”

The ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL is produced by Rockstar Taste of Chaos organizer John Reese, Vans Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman and CAA’s Darryl Eaton.  The trio has made Mayhem a standout on the summer concert circuit by following the proven model of utilizing sponsorship to deliver a lower ticket price and an enhanced concert experience. This year sees them joining forces once again with ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK as the title sponsor.

“When we started this tour three years ago, one of our primary goals was to develop new artists,” say Lyman and Reese. “So we’re extremely proud of Five Finger Death Punch, who were a side stage band during year one and are now a main stage act. Mayhem has quickly become a powerful brand by assembling a monster-sized lineup of heavy hitting artists and unparalleled excitement at an affordable price. It’s a tour of not-to-be-missed moments. The fans recognize this and have responded.”

Live Nation is set to promote the festival nationally.
