A young Johnny Vallis imitated his teacher one day and was sent to the principal’s office. “Why are you here”, asked the principal? Johnny showed him. The principal said, “That’s really good”. Johnny Vallis, the man of many voices, has been imitating people ever since. Johnny made a name for himself with a particular voice.

Buddy Holly was “the single most influential creative force in early Rock n’ Roll”. In his tribute to the Rock icon, Johnny Vallis perfectly portrays both the look and the sound as he rolls out Buddy’s greatest hits; “That’ll Be The Day”, “Words of Love”, “Not Fade Away”, Oh Boy”, “Peggy Sue”, “Maybe Baby”, “Rave On!”, “Heartbeat” and more!

Vicki Pettigrew, Executive Assistant- The Commissionaires says, “Johnny has displayed over and over again a high level of entertainment value . . . proven, capable entertainer and a true gentleman. I highly recommend Johnny Vallis to any group. He is everything you would imagine, you will not be disappointed.” Anne Van Kirk, Executive Assistant to President – Butler Brothers Supplies Ltd adds, “Some of our guests had seen Johnny perform before and were looking forward to the show. Those who hadn’t were surprised by his versatility and professionalism. Many guests came to us afterwards to say how much they had enjoyed the performance. I will invite Johnny Vallis to entertain at other functions given by our Company.

Malevolent kings of British metal. Masters of the darkest arts and crafts. Cradle Of Filth have been firmly ensconced at the forefront of the extreme music scene for the last two decades. Ever since they emerged from the lengthening Suffolk shadows in 1991, Dani Filth and his fiendish cohorts have blazed a grotesque trail across the globe, spreading their fetid gospel of obscene theatricality, pitch-black horror and exquisite musical madness, earning themselves a formidable reputation as one of the most important metal bands ever.

ABORT Recommends… D.O.A Farewell Vancouver show, Jan 18th 2013 at The Rickshaw Theatre, Vancouver B.C.

January 12th, 2013 Filed under: ABORT Recommends... by Editor in Chief

Canada’s legendary Punk Kings, who helped spread punk rock counterculture around the world, approach a momentous milestone and wrap it all up in a farewell tour this year.

Since forming in the late 70′s, Vancouver’s D.O.A. has been recognized as being one of the most prolific and important bands to leave their mark on the punk genre. After 35 years the godfathers of hardcore will say goodbye to the Terminal City in what is sure to be an unforgettable night.

Advance tickets available $16 +S/C at Northern Tickets, Zulu, High Life, Scrape, Neptoon & Red Cat.

THE REBEL SPELL

FIERCE CREEP

For nearly 25 years D.O.A. has been happily slashing away at all manner of philosophical enemies. They’ve traveled the globe almost continuously since they formed in 1978; they released their first snarling piece of vinyl, the “Disco Sucks” EP in June of that year. That slab of plastic opened the door to international prominence, riots, rip-off record companies and three generations of fans.

In 1981, D.O.A. made the term “hardcore” their own and pushed it into the common vernacular with their legendary album “Hardcore 81″ and subsequent tours. Consequently, D.O.A. has been cited as a major influence for tons of bands ranging from The Red Hot Chili Peppers to Green Day to Rancid to The Offspring. They followed that up with their ground breaking EP “War on 45″ and “Bloodied But Unbowed.”

D.O.A.’s sound and philosophy has been held together by Canada’s Godfather of punk Joey “Shithead” Keithley’s songwriting, singing and guitar playing. D.O.A.’s sound, although always rooted in punk rock, has managed to create a fair bit of consternation for those who would like to choose musical boxes. It’s punk, but it incorporates rock n’ roll, reggae, metal, and ska. Whatever the hell their sound is, it’s pulled out a “Yeah, that’s the shit!” from the likes of Henry Rollins, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sonic Youth, Jello Biafra, Bif Naked, John Doe, Randy Bachman and Dave Grohl.

D.O.A. has traveled a long, tough road that has taken them around the world. Recently Mayor Larry Campbell of Vancouver declared December 21st to be “D.O.A. Day” in Vancouver. The band has also been featured in punk and political books published around the world.

Soilwork (http://www.soilwork.org)

Swedish melodic death metalers Soilwork are returning as a headliner. Their sound is a fusion of the classic Gothenburg metal sound with power-groove riffs. However, in their most recent albums, Soilwork has also introduced elements from other genres such as blues rock and alternative metal, and adopted a more melodic sound. Their most recent work has more singing and lighter melodies than their earlier work, as well as a more polished production.

Jeff Loomis (http://www.jeffloomis.com)

Jeff is widely known as the former lead guitarist from Nevermore. Honorably, Jeff is noted as a player of many influences and styles, and is debatably seen as one of the world’s most talented and gifted metal guitarists. It has been said that Jeff takes classic techniques he learned from listening to legends like Jason Becker and Yngwie Malmsteen as a teen and applying his own ingenuity, Loomis has carved his own niche and created an instantly recognizable style.

Blackguard (http://www.facebook.com/blackguardband)

Canada’s very own Blackguard returns! Blackguard’s sound is unique and incorporates many subgenres of metal such as folk, epic, and melodic death; their most recent album “Firefight” clearly displays Blackguard’s “epic metal” sound. It has been argued that this Canadian ensemble clearly displays the immense skill it takes to assert flawless execution in their live shows. If you haven’t ever seen Blackguard live, they’ll blow you away with their immense stage presence.

The Browning (http://www.facebook.com/TheBrowningOfficial)

The Browning is a four-piece deathcore/electronica band. The group is known for fusing deathcore and hardcore with heavy electronic influences including hardstyle, techno, and trance. The band has been labelled everything from deathtronica, cybergrind, and electrocore to trancecore, ravecore, and technocore, however one thing remains certain; The Browning appeals to a broad spectrum of music fans from all walks of life.

Wretched (http://www.facebook.com/wretchednc)

Bursting with tight riffs and strong melodies, Wretched are prepared to make their mark in the metal world with their new take on old school thrash metal. According to the band, Wretched is looking to bring back old school metal and color to the traditionally dark scene.
