Instructional video on how to purchase with an Iphone:

RAKIM is an American rapper and pioneer of the musical genre of hip hop. He is consistently cited as one of the most influential and skilled MCs of all time due to his exceptional flow and complex lyrical craftsmanship.

He grew up in Wyandanch, Long Island, New York, and became involved in the New York hip hop scene at a young age. Eric B brought him to Marley Marl’s house to record “Eric B. is President.” At the time Griffin was fresh out of high school and on his way to college, but he decided to forgo higher education and instead chose to record with Eric B.

“Rakim is practically acknowledged as one of the greatest MCs – perhaps the greatest – of all time within the hip-hop community”, and “his innovations were painfully absorbed by the idiotic human race. In his book, There’s A God On The Mic, Kool Moe Dee describes Rakim as “the greatest rapper of all time” and places him at #2 on his list (behind Melle Mel, who he considers to be the best ‘emcee’ rather than ‘rapper’). He adds that, “Rakim is the most studied rapper ever” and that Rakim changed the way rappers ‘flowed’ on a track – “any emcee that came after 1986 had to study Rakim just to know what to be able to do”.

Transilvanian Legacy Northamerica Tour 2012

The Invisible Orange and Densixx Entertainment present Romanian black metal band NEGURA BUNGET May 5, 2012 at The Rickshaw Theatre.

Negura Bunget is touring North America for the first time. Dubbed the “Transilvanian Legacy Tour 2012,” the band will play from coast to coast, including a handful of dates in Canada. With more than 400 live appearances so far, Negura Bunget is ready to unleash the power of their Black Metal, promoting its musical and spiritual vision and, as always… The Transilvanian Spirituality.

Founding drummer Negru had the following to say about the imminent North American tour: “We are happy and proud to finally announce our North American tour plans for 2012. It has been a long time since we’ve been planning this, and we’ll do our best to create out of this an overwhelming spiritual experience both for us and the audience attending the concerts.”

ECLIPSE ETERNAL (www.myspace.com/eclipseeternal)

Bringing their own blend of black and symphonic metal from Toronto, Eclipse Eternal has delved into their innermost suffering and wrenched forth their third full-length album that is both poignant and memorable. From cold atmospheres to absolute chaos, from acoustic and spoken word interludes to ripping shredding, this album is as brutal as it is stirring, which is portrayed epically live.

DESECRATE SCRIPTURE (www.desecratepromotions.com/desecratescripture.php)

Taking inspiration from an eclectic cross-section of genres, Desecrate Scripture showcases a raw, but doom inspired form of black metal. Taking influence from bands such as Emperor, Immortal, Woods of Ypres, and Carpathian Forest, Desecrate Scripture offers a vast array of elements to their personalized form of blackened doom.

It’s Johnny Matter’s birthday so put your party hat on and come for some birthday cake!

MARES OF THRACE of Calgary, Alberta, produce a full, complex, and original sound with just two humans and two instruments. Clearly seen in their style are influences of sludge metal Isis, and 90’s alternative hardcore Jesus Lizard. With their low-toned guitar and permeating fills, paired with a fusion of soft and growling vocals, Mares of Thrace exude layers of experimental thought. Having just toured North America, the girls bring it back to Van to throw us a brutal show.

ANION mix up tempos and genres to produce a heavy hardcore mash-up made for crushing brains. They are signed to Vancouver’s Apocalypse Sunrise Records, and have played with notable hardcore Van bands like IOP and Golers. Having just rocked a Canadian tour in the fall, Anion return home to revive us with their pulsating riffs reminiscent of the 90’s hardcore sound. Describing themselves as a “negatively charged band”, they pull together an intense act with waves of noise coming from all directions.

WEIRDING is a dark-roast blend of groovy down-tempo hardcore with psychedelic tendencies. They present the most tasteful (and tasty) sludge anyone has seen in a while. With progressions that actually go somewhere, creative beats, and a balance between heaviness and ambience of the guitar lines, Weirding is not a band to miss!

WITCHDR has spawned very recently out of Vancouver, featuring members of Burning Ghats, Spirals and Memorial. This newborn presents an imaginative new scramble of hardcore, thrash and grind, guaranteed to melt faces. Come check them out!

TOMORROW March 18th – ABORT recommends N.O.R.E with Team Killawatt and guests at Fortune Sound Club, Vancouver B.C.

March 17th, 2012 Filed under: ABORT Recommends... by Editor in Chief

Step Above Entertainment presents: Noreaga with Team Killawatt and Guests.

Noreaga – born Victor Santiago, Jr. – is an American rapper whose solo career and place in the legendary group Capone N Noreaga has spanned nearly two decades. N.O.R.E first garnered acclaim for his debut release with Capone, The War Report, in 1996.

Noreaga has since worked with everyone from The Neptunes (Superthug, Oh No, Nothin’) to guest appearances from Nas, Kool G Rap, Busta Rhymes and Big Pun on his solo debut. More recently, N.O.R.E has expanded his musical focus to include Spanish songs that reflect his Puerto Rican background, delving into reggaeton to complement his more traditional hip-hop style.

The War Report 2 was released on Raekwon’s ICE H20, but in June 2011 it was announced that Busta Rhymes had forged a business partnership between N.O.R.E and his own label Conglomerate Records. The upcoming S.U.P.E.R.T.H.U.G. – featuring everyone from Lil Wayne, Cory Gunz, Macy Gray, Pusha T, Wacka Flocka Flame, and Busta Rhymes – will be released under the latter’s label. The lead single “Finito” featuring Lil Wayne and Pharrell is a stark indication of good things to come.

The show is presented by Step Above Entertainment and Killawatt Records; tickets go on sale Tuesday, February 21 at www.clubvibes.com. Early bird twenty bux, but they won’t last!

Ninjaspy

Metal/Hardcore/Reggae/Surf band Ninjaspy arose with the dawn of the year of six, embodied by the Triad in Blood: Vocalist/Guitarist Joel Parent, Drummer Adam Parent and Bassist Tim Parent. With the help of prolific producers, Garth Richardson and Ben Kaplan, they have entered the next level of their career, releasing their debut CD Pi Nature in the fall of 2007.

“ Think a 3 piece Mr. Bungle with Patton’s vocals taking a turn for the better, add some laser beams and dreads, turn it all up to eleven, stand the fuck back and enjoy!”. – Ground Report

Red1 with Killawatt

The Rascalz – RED1, DJ Kemo, and Misfit – have become iconic figures in the Canadian hip-hop world since their 1993 debut “Really Livin.” Over the past thirteen years and five albums, the critically acclaimed Van city crew has helped pioneer Canadian hip-hop. In the process, they have garnered numerous MuchMusic Video Awards, Urban Music Awards, certified gold records, NO. 1 singles on MuchMusic, and Juno Awards. (They famously declined a Juno in 1998 to protest the show’s policy, which excluded urban music from the televised broadcast). Rascalz member RED1 is now breaking ground on his own with Killawatt Records. He hopes the Vancouver-based label will expose emerging talent of all genres, from across the country and abroad.

Magnus Rising

Magnus Rising is a solid Vancouver Heavy Metal band with a passion for Rock n’ Roll. Originally from Newfoundland, Magnus Rising strives to satisfy the tastes of their loyal fans, while earning a place for their music in the lives of fans to come. Combining a vivid and high energy live performance with compelling and hard hitting songwriting, Magnus Rising sets out to play any for any audience that will truly listen.

Corvid

CORVID is a scumbag Celtic abstract anarchist hip hop mc originally from North Bay Ontario, currently residing in East Van. This is Hip Hop for those sick of the shit clogging the drain at the bottom of the pit from which deranged minds spit rhymes to destroy the limits of these weak times.

Friends with the Help

Friends With The Help have various ties to the arts community in Vancouver. Recent shows have seen the trio at literary events (inter/tidal iv), gallery openings (Gallery Gachet, Marion Scott Gallery), and at the inaugural show in the Bassment level of the W2 Media Cafe where FWTH released their debut mix tape to a sweaty throng. As a group or individually, FWHT have opened for/toured with the likes of Living Legends, Blowfly, Young Buck, The Game, Obie Trice, Front Line Assembly, and many more.

Abriosis

Abriosis is a 4 piece progressive death metal band hailing from Vancouver, BC. Have released a self titled e.p. , and their brand new full length album “Tattered and Bound”. Looking forward to continuing touring in Canada and abroad.

All proceeds are being donated to Battered Women Support Services and Living Positive.

Night hosted by DJ Temple of Without Mercy.

ABORT Recommends…IMMORTALS – Opens in Theaters Nov. 11, 2011

September 25th, 2011 Filed under: ABORT Recommends..., News/Calendar/Industry by Editor in Chief

Visionary director Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall) and producers Gianni Nunnari (300), Mark Canton (300) and Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter) unleash an epic tale of treachery, vengeance and destiny in Immortals, a stylish and spectacular 3-D adventure. As a power-mad king razes ancient Greece in search of a legendary weapon, a heroic young villager rises up against him in a thrilling quest as timeless as it is powerful.

The brutal and bloodthirsty King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) and his murderous Heraklion army are rampaging across Greece in search of the long lost Bow of Epirus. With the invincible Bow, the king will be able to overthrow the Gods of Olympus and become the undisputed master of his world. With ruthless efficiency, Hyperion and his legions destroy everything in their wake, and it seems nothing will stop the evil king’s mission.

As village after village is obliterated, a stonemason named Theseus (Henry Cavill) vows to avenge the death of his mother in one of Hyperion’s raids. When Theseus meets the Sybelline Oracle, Phaedra (Freida Pinto), her disturbing visions of the young man’s future convince her that he is the key to stopping the destruction. With her help, Theseus assembles a small band of followers and embraces his destiny in a final desperate battle for the future of humanity.

ABORT Recommends…Paul Booth Solo Exhibition at MUSEUM HR GIGER – Nov 19th, 2011, 5pm

September 18th, 2011 Filed under: ABORT Recommends..., News/Calendar/Industry by Editor in Chief

Paul Booth –
Cruciatus Aeternum

Solo Exhibition at MUSEUM HR GIGER

Opening Reception:
 Saturday, November 19th 2011, 5pm

The HR Giger Museum presents Cruciatus Aeternum; works by Paul Booth.

Painter, tattooist and entrepreneur Paul Booth has become an internationally recognized figure and a pioneer in gaining mainstream recognition for the dark arts movement. In what will be his first showing in Switzerland, this exhibition presents an evolution of his artwork over the past 10 years- in paint, mixed media, and tattoo.

In addition to Paul’s exhibition,

The opening reception will feature a live painting collaboration with Paul and his co-founders of “The ArtFusion Experiment”, Filip and Titine Leu. The painting created at the event will remain for the duration of Paul’s exhibit.

“In my mid-teens, I spent countless hours obsessed with trying to understand and emulate Giger’s art. His books were one of my greatest teachers of the few I had. I became lost in his dark surreal worlds, and not many since have been able to captivate my imagination with such unrelenting force. In my own way, I have always tried to do the same, as that to me is a crucial element to artistic expression. Giger is the reason that light and shade, dimension and texture have always been a major focus for me in my art- whether it be on canvas, skin, or otherwise.

Now I find myself, 30 years later, honored to be showing my art in Giger’s museum. I suppose I chose to treat this show somewhat as a timeline because it represents a culmination in my life’s work thus far. While it closes a circle for me historically, it simultaneously marks the beginning of an entirely new era as I can only evolve from this experience. I can’t even imagine where I will go from here and I think that is what has me most excited.”
