Album Review: Sweatshop Union – Leisure Gang (Free Download)

July 9th, 2012 Filed under: Reviews - Music by Editor in Chief

SweatShop Union’s newest album ‘Leisure Gang’ combines hard hitting raw hip-hop/electronic beats with an arsenal of humorous punch lines and catchy hooks. Only one year after releasing their last album, and local hit, ‘Bill Murray’, the six member group managed to get together between side projects and push out a short EP for their fans. Oozing with originality, this album has a little bit of everything including “L.A.M.M.” which can only be described as SweatShop Union’s take on swag music, “Space Bears” with distorted vocals is reminiscent of something straight off the last Pigeon Hole album, and just in time for summer “King of the Beach” will definitely be blasting out of boom boxes of anyone with modicum of taste stumbling around the sandy beaches of Vancouver.

It’s always been exciting to hear anything released by SweatShop since they always seem to come up with great themes, constantly changing and adapting their many styles to make it impossible for anyone listening to get bored. With the members blending together so smoothly, my only complaint is the seven track album personally left this reviewer wanting more. To to top it all off, you can download Leisure Gang for FREE with the option to donate, which is worth it.
