Live Review: West of Hell w/ Cocaine Moustache, Snaggletooth and Order of Chaos
Saturday, June 23rd, 2012
The Rickshaw Theatre

Metal fans gathered together at the freshly touched up Rickshaw for a rather large local show consisting of Snaggletooth, Order of Chaos, Cocaine Moustache and West of Hell.

First up was definite crowd pleaser Snaggletooth and if you haven’t guessed by the name, a Motorhead tribute band. If you are a fan of Motorhead and haven’t had the chance to see them live or are itching to see them, definitely check out Snaggletooth live when they have a show. They’ll play classics like “Killed By Death”, “Chase is Better Than the Catch”, “Overkill”, the legendary “Ace of Spades” and more. Not only do they put on a great cover of Motorhead, the vocalist almost looks like Lemmy, minus the warts but with more height. This band should never open a show but at least play a later spot. Noteable new drummer: Darrel Sharpe of black death metal maniacs Necroholocaust and Kamloop’s speed crust Damned Grave. These guys show their true love for Motorhead and have a great time doing it!

The second band of the evening was Order of Chaos from Edmonton, Alberta. Despite having a bunch of guitar wankery and a skankly clad hot girl “The Wench” (live vocalist for Into Eternity) singing, this band is rather boring and nothing but your average generic power/heavy metal with elements of new school thrash. Definitely no Doro.

Next up was Vancouver Super Group Cocaine Moustache -they are quite the show to see. Mixing blues, funk, soul, rock and their own style, you have members of various metal groups including Zuckuss, Tyrants Blood, Golers, Omega Crom, Mecca Messiah and Hurt, making them a local super group. Despite playing in suits don’t let their classy appearance fool you; their lyrics are about booze, bitches and drugs. Charismatic vocalist Jesse (normally a drummer, a delight to see on vocals) wasn’t puking on himself this time, instead jumping off speakers and acting like the wild man he truly is on stage. Cocaine Moustache is a fun band to see, for all partiers, drinkers and music fans.

Finally releasing their first and only release, full length Spiral Empire, West of Hell got to celebrate. Part of West of Hell relocated to Vancouver from New Zealand, playing without a vocalist before grabbing Chris “the Heathen” Valagao vocalist for Zimmer’s Hole and formerly Australia’s industrial metal band The Bezerker as well as legendary locals Strapping Young Lad. The band also replaced their old guitarist with local Theocide’s Jordan Knute. High in power and energy, West of Hell has quickly gathered quite the fan club of heavy/power/thrash metal enthusiasts in Vancouver which definitely showed with the extensively large turn out for a local show.
