Joe McNeely here for ABORT Magazine’s 21 and Under with a fresh new up-and-comer in the the world of Canadian hiphop, hailing from the far reaches of Montreal, Quebec.

ABORT Magazine: In a few articles, you have been referred to as one of the hardest working rappers in Canada. How do you think you earned this title and do you have any tips for up and coming emcees?

NYCE: I’m a workaholic no matter what I do. Once I have my mind set on a goal, I go for it. No it’s not easy, it involves a lot of work and dedication along with a strong team that’s very important. And weed, If you’re a smoker. Yeah Yeah!

AM: What was the biggest obstacle so far coming up in the rap game in Cote-des-Neiges?

NYCE: Cops won’t give your boy a break; I’M NOT YOUR PUSHA MAN! Once they classify you as a dope dealer they never think a person can change.

AM: You have a very noticeable amount of tattoos. What was your first one and does it have any personal meaning?

NYCE: My first 2 tattoos were my Thug Life 514 and my Uptown tattoos, They represent my city and my hood. I love them both, I am a proud Canadian. C’est la Vie!

AM: Explain a few of your nicknames: Nyce, Mista Uptown. What do they mean to you, and how did you get them?

NYCE: The name used to be Early B because I woke up real early to get my grind on, until I got I got my grind up and now Early B is B-Nyce, that’s what I wanted to be at whatever I do. And as I got older and matured, I dropped the B to keep it simple because realistically I was NYCE. They also called me Mista Uptown because I rep my hood not matter where I go.

AM: What venue would be your dream stage to rock, and if you could choose anyone, who would open for you?

NYCE: My Dream stage would be the Montreal Bell Centre, I got to do it for my City. And I would love to open for T.I. that would for sure would make it a dream.

AM: In your own words, how would you describe Montreal’s hip hop scene?

NYCE: Montreal has a huge Hip hop scene but we need to support each other more.

AM: Your next album ‘Certified’ is soon to be released. If you had to choose one, what would be your favourite track on the album?

NYCE: Aww man! There is too many to choose from. But if I had to choose it would be “Deniero” and maybe “Work”.

AM: Growing up, other than emceeing, were you involved in any of the other elements of hip hop?

NYCE: Nope! Sorry, I’ve slanging them packs from young.. LOL! While people were out playing in the park, I was in the Trap! When you were out having a good time dancing in a club, I was in the Trap!

AM: Who you would be your ideal rapper to collaborate with?

NYCE: It would be Young Jeezy, Motivation 101 did so much for me.

AM:You just recently toured across Canada, which province had the best weed?

NYCE: Vancouver had the most, but Winnipeg had the best Purp… but Montreal is still known for the best weed. MTL baby! #WORK.

Props to NYCE for sitting down with us here at ABORT, keep an eye on the charts…
