CORVID Releases Debut Album PURGATORIO – February 28th, 2012

February 27th, 2012 Filed under: Made In Canada, News/Calendar/Industry by Editor in Chief

CORVID – PURGATORIO

Dark and sinister, profound and sardonically humorous, CORVID’s first full length release “Purgatorio” embodies the visions of his restless and rebellious soul in 11 diverse tracks, produced and recorded by fellow Stoop Fam member, and “the hardest working DJ in Vancouver” – K-Rec.

Inspired by a copy of Dante’s “Divine Comedy – Purgatory” bought from a street vendor on Commercial Drive, Corvid has crafted an intricate vision of struggle and redemption over a shifting backdrop of K-Rec’s Golden Era styled Hip Hop production. Kicking off with the visceral history lesson of “All In”, Corvid’s dense lyrics and smoked out vocals drop mad science while K-Rec’s beats range from Bombsquad-esque bangers to laid back Boom-Bap. Corvid even throws in some live bass on the anthemic “Downtown To East Van” and outro “Paradise”, while the entire work is woven together with a mind boggling array of samples that are both unsettling and hilarious.

Dedicated to the memory of Corvid’s close friend Edward Scott Day, founder and editor of the infamous Abort Magazine, Purgatorio tells the story of humanity’s daily pain and stress through the eyes of a heavily-medicated everyman, whose image of reality is sometimes exaggerated but never false. As characters emerge from the blunt smoke like phantoms, Corvid’s worldview alters to suit their perspectives, like the mirror image of Dante’s visions portrayed on the cover. While his debut EP “Bitter Dragon” presented the twisted mind of his unsettled youth, “Purgatorio” shows a more mature and confident side of Corvid’s work, unafraid to look into the depths of life’s dark corners to find the gleaming gems within.
