CD/DVD Review – Jimi Hendrix
West Coast Seattle Boy – The Jimi Hendrix Anthology
Sony Music

In the world of guitarists, there is a special place held for Jimi Hendrix.  Even forty years after his death, Hendrix’s recorded works continue to inspire guitarists of every age.  With West Coast Seattle Boy: The Jimi Hendrix Anthology, listeners are treated to a rare and unique collection of Jimi Hendrix’s unreleased material recorded during the three years preceding his death as well as rare video footage on the accompanying DVD.

The CD compilation features fifteen tracks spanning Hendrix’s illustrious career from his humble beginnings as a rhythm guitar player to one of the most iconic musicians of the century.  Consisting of rare and alternate versions of classic hits such as Fire and In From the Storm to previously unreleased tracks such as Tears of Rage as well as the electrifying live performance of Hound Dog Blues, it is easy to tell that this is not your typical greatest hits anthology.  West Coast Seattle Boy is about the Hendrix you never heard.  Those raw lost moments in the career of one of the greats.

This collection also features a DVD of Jimi Hendrix: Voodoo Child, a raw and introspective video documentary covering the life and times of Jimi in his own words.  Through the video footage of live interviews and performances to the personal writings and sketches, viewers are given a more personal look at the life of the legendary guitarist as he lived on and off the stage.  In addition, the DVD features a number of personal effects ranging from various song drafts and lyrics to postcards to his father, all adding to the deeply personal nature of this collection

Whether you’re a die hard fan looking to complete your collection or just looking for a glimpse at the Hendrix we never heard, West Coast Seattle Boy: The Jimi Hendrix Anthology goes behind the curtain with one of the greatest popular musicians of our time.
