There is beauty in chaos and to the casual observer, spoon fed on the mediocrity of present day popular music and stunted by a less than informed view of the industry in general, this is the chaos you need!

Teaming up here for a visually stunning and aurally amazing DVD offering entitled Live from London 2006, The Fantômas Melvins Big Band are at their absolute peak, captured live at the Kentish Town Forum in London. Starting with his best Roger Whitaker impression, front man Mike Patton whistles his way through the haunting cover of the Flipper song “Sacrifice” before maniacally conducting the band through a veritable “what’s what” of the Fantômas/Melvins song library. Initially accompanied by indecipherable subtitles and shot from enough camera angles to catch all the action, calling this an impressive live set is like calling the Grand Canyon an impressive pothole.

There are some truly amazing moments on this DVD, jam packed with the spontaneity and chaos only a Fantômas Melvins Big Band live show can convey. King Buzzo playing in his jammies, the dueling drums of Dale Crover and Dave Lombardo, bass experimentation via Trevor Dunn, David Scott Stone’s guitar, bass and electric “long thin wire” work and, of course, Mike Patton in all his screaming, grunting, groaning glory.

Lengthy drum intros give the audience plenty of time to shout their favourite song requests before the boys burst forth with the chaos that only The Fantômas Melvins Big Band can provide. Mike completely owns “Night Goat;” while Buzzo’s backing vocals add a whole new dimension to the song. Their version of the War song “Low Rider” is gonna make you forget everything you previously knew about war, (the pointless act of human aggression, not the band).

With more than enough weirdness to intrigue fans old and new, what more could possibly be added to this DVD to make it any more complete? Well, how about a commentary track with members of the band and none other than Danny DeVito himself? Yep, it’s all here, everything your mediocre spoon fed mind needs in stunning, maniacal, chaotic beauty!
